RECREATION CENTER highlights
The staff at the recreation center hopes everyone had an enjoyable summer.
Now we get ready for the fall and the beginning of another year of recreational activities.
As the children prepare to return to school, please drive safely and please do not speed!
BASKETBALL
As long as the weather holds
out, men's pick-up games will
continue to be offered on
Sunday mornings at
10:00 am and 6:30pm
on Tuesday & Thursday
evenings out on our courts.
POOL (BILLIARDS)
& PING PONG
Available seven nights a week:
Mon-Fri: 7:00pm - 11:00pm
Saturday: 7:00pm - 11:00pm
Sunday: 4:00pm - 8:00pm
A one hour time limit is in effect and reservations are

RECREATION COMMITTEE
ACTIVITIES
This group's next activity is the Halloween Fun Day
for children. It is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th.

SCOUTING
A new year of Scouting, as well as registration for all
Scouts, begins with the new school year. Many of the troops
use the Rec Center for their meetings. For further info about
registration or about Scouts in general, please call

SINGLES GROUP
This group will meet on the 3rd Friday of each month at 8pm at
the Rec Center. Newtown Grant singles and their single friends
are encouraged to attend. September's meeting, on the
18th, at 8:00pm. Bring a snack and/or beverage of choice, and
bring your ideas to help plan for October's meeting.

SOFTBALL
As of this writing, the Championship series is just
getting underway, due to a rain delayed season. The
two teams vying for the Championship are Raven's
View, coached by Jim Ruhe and Eagles Pointe, coached by
Chuck Wimmersberger. Best of luck to both teams!
The Men's Softball League consists of players from
Newtown Grant and all games are played here, on our field on
weeknight evenings. The league is always looking for new talent,
as well as players from all skill levels. Registration is in early
Spring. In the newsletter.

MASTERBOARD minutes
In
attempt to keep the residents of Newtown Grant informed about issues presented and handled by the Master Board
of Directors, the following digest of meeting minutes is being published.
Newtown Grant Master Board of Directors
Meeting Minutes : March 18, 2009
- The meeting was called to order
at 8:05 PM.
- A quorum was met with the six
board members who were present at
the meeting.
In attendance were:
- Bill McManimon - Estates I
- Barbara Firestone - Society Place
- Harry Stevens - Raven's View I
- LuAnn Socha - Estates II
- Theresa Simone - Heatherwood II
- Alex Bartos - Fawn Hollow
- Lawrence W. Mayer - Continental
Property Management, Inc.
- Sparkling Pools - Ms. Kim Dempsey, Mr. Jason Clark
explained their setup as a company.
- A motion was made by Barbara Firestone to not pay American Pool Management, Inc.
the outstanding balance of $2,000 remaining from the 2008 pool operations expenses until
they properly support in writing the 402 hours per week required by the contract for lifeguard
staffing from the dates of July 20, 2008 through the date of pool closing, September 1, 2008.
Motion seconded by Bill McManimon. Vote in favor 6-0.

- Guards are restricted from great room
- Chesterbrook Academy children were discussed
- Tables and chairs arrangement
- Safety checks for lifeguards clocking in and out
- A motion was made by Barbara Firestone to accept Sparkling
Pool Services as 2009 pool company.
Motion seconded by Alex Bartos. Vote in favor 6-0.
- Request information from Verizon concerning telephone charges.
- A motion was made by Barbara Firestone to not outsource newsletter.
Motion seconded by Bill McManimon, all approved 6-0.
- The question of cluster snow removal contractors offered to
individual residents. No one is interested.
- Chesterbrook Academy approved by Alex Bartos, seconded by Bill McManimon, all approved 6-0.
- Advertising aerobics on first page; they have to pay for it. Motion made
by Barbara Firestone to approve, Alex Bartos seconded, vote 4-2 approved.
- Landscape - Motion made by Alex Bartos to keep current
landscaper through December 15, 2012 at the same price as 2008,
seconded by LuAnn Socha, all in favor 6-0.
- New keys issued to Bill, Alex and Larry, four (4) to pool company, four
(4) to Ray for the workers, one (1) in lockbox, one (1) for each cluster manager at CPM.
- RHR, Inc. to replace ping pong and pool table room heat unit.
Motion made by Harry Stevens, seconded by Alex Bartos, all approved 6-0.
- Spring garage sale - Ask Brandon if interested.
- Employee pay raises tabled until April 2009.
- Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.

- The meeting was called to order at 8:10 PM.

backstops to a fixed height.
Motion seconded by Theresa Simone. All in favor 6-0.
- A motion was made by Barbara Firestone to repair the bargeboards.
Motion seconded by Peggy White. All in favor 6-0.
- A motion was made by Peggy White to approve the Capital Reserve Analysis update.
Motion seconded by Theresa Simone. All in favor 5-1; 1 against.
- A motion was made by John D'Aprile - Garage Sale Dates.
Motion seconded by Bob Shaw. All in favor 6-0.
- A motion was made by Barbara Firestone to accept the minutes from the March 18, 2009 meeting.
Motion seconded by Theresa Simone. All in favor 4-0, 2 abstentions.
- CDs coming due June and July 2009.
A motion was made by John D'Aprile to place three (3) CDs in 1-year certificates at the best
rate available.
Motion seconded by Bob Shaw. All in favor 6-0.
- Newtown Grant Master Board rule is that a leash is considered a physical
leash only. Electronic leashes are not acceptable.
- New Business
- Does aerobics have insurance? Management instructed to request certificate.
- Opening pool party - there will be no opening day pool party.
- Dog park - is there somewhere one can be established? The horse field?
What will it take to establish one?
Management has been instructed to research this idea.
- More police activity has occurred in Newtown Grant inclusive of 6 miles per hour over the limit.
Speeding tickets.
- Belke update - Mrs. Belke died and a relative is living in the home.
- A motion was made by John D'Aprile to replace dead bushes behind the sign
at Whispering Wood entrance; 4 or 5 bushes under $200.
Motion seconded by Peggy White - Approved 6-0.
