Each year, more than 120 billion units of plastic packaging are produced by the beauty industry, but less than 9% of that packaging gets recycled. If you are racking up a lot of empty product containers in your beauty and hygiene routine, you may be creating a lot of trash.
To help combat this waste, in 2020, Nordstrom created “Beautycycle” – a beauty recycling program aimed to reduce waste generated by beauty products through the Company’s commitment to take back 100 tons of packaging to be recycled by 2025.
You can recycle your empty beauty product packaging of any brand to any Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, or Nordstrom Local store in the continental US, such as the nearby Nordstrom Rack located in Lincoln Plaza on East Lincoln Highway in Langhorne, PA. The program is free.
All empty product packaging may be deposited into the designated Beautycycle boxes in the beauty department, including:
Shampoo and conditioner bottles and caps
Hair-gel tubes and caps
Hair-spray bottles and triggers (no cans)
Hair-paste plastic jars and caps
Face-soap dispensers and tubes
Lotion bottles, tubes, dispensers, and jars
Shaving-foam tubes (no cans)
Eyeliner pencils and cases (excluding wooden pencils)
Eyeshadow and tubes
Concealer tubes and sticks
Note: This program does not accept aerosol or pressurized cans, perfume bottles, nail polish bottles or removers, wooden eyeliner pencils, electronic items such as blow dryers, any bio-medical or bio-hazardous waste, or partially full and full packaging. Drop off locations may not accept dripping items, so make sure your packaging is dry.
Once collected, the beauty product packaging that otherwise would have been dumped into the environment will be cleaned, separated by material type, and recycled into new products through Nordstrom’s program with TerraCycle.
