For a number of years The Newtown Township Police Department has provided this service to residents and property owners. While on routine patrol a police officer pays extra attention to your home while you are away. This service can be provided by simply calling the Police Business Office at (215) 579-1000 x398 prior to the departure date and providing the following information:
Name
Address of property
Date you are leaving & when you plan on returning
Emergency contact information & phone number
Is the property alarmed?
Will anyone else be on the property, checking on pets?
In addition to the property check here are some tips to help keep your home secure in your absence:
Ask a trusted friend to check on the home on a daily basis
Cancel mail and newspaper deliveries unless you have someone to pick them up on a daily basis to avoid accumulation.
Use automatic timers for lights both inside and outside the home
Make sure all doors and windows are secured
In the summer have someone cut the grass while you are away
Turn down the ringer on the phone, an unanswered phone will alert someone outside that no one is home
